El Play is a thirty minute documentary recently showcased at El Museo del Barrio for the Havana Film Festival. El Play follows the hard-knock journey of a Dominican teen hoping to make it into baseball's major leagues. Set in San Pedro do Macoris, a Dominican city famous for producing beisbol superstars, the documentary offers a rare look ito players' struggle to escape poverty.
The film's director, Pablo A. Medina grew up between Washington DC and New Jersey where he skate-boarded and listened to the Clash. He now runs Cubanica and is Assistant Professor at Parsons The New School for Design. He likes to design typefaces, posters, and books. El Play recently won an award at the Urbanworld Film Festival. He lives in the East Village of New York City.
