Spruill Gallery Presents
FORMATIONS: Patterns in Nature
March 15 - April 13, 2013
Opening Reception
Thursday, March 14
6 - 9PM
Patterns that form in nature are captured and interpreted in the work of longtime Atlanta artists Kate Colpitts, Jeannine Cook, Helen DeRamus, Barb Rehg, Gerry Sattele and Mona Waterhouse, The natural world is the source of their inspiration as well as the subject in their dissected, re-composed and abstracted paintings, drawings and constructions. Their different approaches echo how the diversity of nature avoids explanation even by the most sophisticated algorithm and is the constant source of renewal and regeneration.
The exhibition, FORMATIONS: Patterns in Nature, examines how these artists views their world and its influences whether in the outcroppings of rock, a seed pod’s disciplined patterning or the layering of earth’s strata. Nature is their blueprint for creating forms and patterns as beautiful, and often abstracted, works of art.
